This test is intended to aid in diagnosing herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections with active viral shedding; it also differentiates HSV-1 from HSV-2. Negative HSV NAA results indicate a lack of viral shedding, but do not confirm the absence of previous infection.
The HSV Kit tests for genital and oral herpes. The test is easy to use and only requires you to swab a visible lesion or sore which you may have on your genitals, lips, or mouth, then mail it in for testing.
Herpes is a very common STD caused by the Herpes Simplex Viruses Type 1 (HSV-1) and Type 2 (HSV-2). The viruses are contagious and spread through skin-to-skin contact with a person’s infected areas.
Infection happens during sexual interactions such as kissing, oral sex, vaginal sex, and anal sex. You cannot get herpes from coughing, sneezing, sitting on a toilet seat, or hugging.
It is important to note that condoms and other protective barriers may not stop you from contracting herpes because virus shedding can occur in areas not covered by condoms.

To simplify, if you are infected with either HSV-1 or HSV-2 on your genitals, it is considered a genital herpes infection. Your genitals include (penis, vagina, anus, scrotum, butt, inner thighs, vulva).
