Three Signs You Might Have An STD
Symptoms are tricky to interpret.
Does your headache mean you’re dehydrated, stressed, or dealing with poor vision? It’s tempting to ignore symptoms and hope they disappear, but the following three symptoms definitely need your attention since they could signal an STD.
Before we dive in, it’s important you know, most STDs are a bit silent. Meaning, symptoms are generally mild and can be brushed off as something else, that being, said pay close attention.
Continual Genital Itching
Itches happen from time to time, but it is not normal to feel continuous itching around/on/in your genital areas. If your itching becomes incessant and overwhelming, it could indicate a yeast infection (for women) or an STD like chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, or trichomoniasis.
Pain with Urination
Painful burning sensations during urination are usually associated with urinary tract infections, but they also occur with most STDs. It can be difficult to determine the actual cause without a urine test. UTI’s are typically more common in women but can get them as well.
If you can relate to more than one of these symptoms, you could have an STD.
Abnormal Discharge
Discharge with distinct colors and odor is a hallmark of most STDs. For women, clear and light discharge is fairly normal. Yellow, green, chunky, or foul-smelling discharge can indicate an STD like gonorrhea, chlamydia, or trichomoniasis. For men, normal penile discharge includes pre-ejaculate and ejaculate which are typically released during sexual arousal or intercourse, but anything outside of that is a cause for concern and could indicate an STD.
If you can relate to more than one of these symptoms, you could have an STD. Be sure to take an STD test to determine what condition you need to treat. The sooner you begin tackling your symptoms, the sooner you can feel better.
